Who needs a TV when you can have Criminal Board Games?

Fed up of having petty arguments over what to watch with your younger siblings or parents when you go home for a few days? Me too. Why not bring out a board game instead?

By Charlotte Walter

A lot of the time, when you hear ‘board games’, you immediately think ‘what a great idea for young children’. Or, you feel obligated to play because you don’t want to upset the child. But, just because it says aged 10+ on the box, this does not mean adults are excluded. Anyone from age 10-100 can play. There is just as much choice for you adults if you want to play with a group of mates or your family alongside a few beers. Believe it or not, there are more games than Hungry Hippos which will appeal to you. It is a great way for everyone to stay connected verbally rather than bonding over a TV show.

Why not try one of these 3 criminal board games that can involve just as much mystery and drama as watching a TV show does?

1.Cluedo

On the box, it might say aged 8+, but don’t let that sway you from playing. It does not mean it is only suitable for children. In fact, in my experience, my friends and older family members enjoy it more. The purpose of the game is to discover who the murderer of the victim ‘Dr. Black’ is, the weapon that was used and what room of the mansion the murder took place. The 6 suspects include Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. Peacock, Reverend Green, Colonel Mustard and Mrs. White. Each player must assemble the role of one of the suspects. By moving around the game board (9 rooms of a mansion) tactically and gathering clues about the context of the murder by asking other players, you will figure out the correct answer. The first person to do so, wins.

2.CSI – Crime Scene Investigation Game

If you are a fan of the TV show, you will enjoy this without a doubt. This game involves playing for Grissom’s team and with assistance from other CSI characters, each player will become a crime scene investigator. The aim of the game is to present the correct arrest warrant to Grissom which is achieved by gathering proof from 7 crime lab divisions. Must have 2-4 players or teams.

3. Exit: The Game – The Abandoned Cabin

Do you like breaking codes and solving riddles? Look no further, and buy ‘The Abandoned Cabin’. The object of the game is to escape from the cabin after using it as shelter from the previous night. By using the code dial and the book left by the owner, you need to work as a team in order to earn your freedom and be released from the hell that you are trapped in. For 1-6 players, teamwork has never been so important.
